Heaton Township Association

Heaton Township Association was set up in the early 1970’s with the aim of conserving, protecting and promoting the amenities, atmosphere and welfare of the Heaton area and its inhabitants.

The objectives of the Association are:

Membership is open to anyone living in the area or anyone who shares the aims and objectives of the Association.  Annual subscriptions are currently a minimum of £2.  The Association is not a registered charity and operates in an open and informal manner, with its active members being people who have nothing more than a desire to make the area in which they live better for everyone.

An Annual General Meeting is held in May each year and a Management Committee is elected to run the affairs of the Association for the rest of the year.

Recent activity includes : working closely with the Keep Heaton Green campaign, and engaging a planning consultant (on behalf of the campaign) to put together the case against housing development at Ashwell Farm; supporting proposals for traffic calming on Highgate; sponsoring the Young People’s Citizenship Awards; producing calendars and cards/notelets with photographs of local scenes; organising annual Community Clean Ups and an HTA ‘Roadshow’; and continuing to monitor and make representations about planning applications within the area.

The Association also works closely with other organisations in the area, including the Heaton Urban Village Partnership and Heaton St. Barnabas’ Village Hall.
