Heaton Graveyard Community Project aims to restore the magnificent Victorian graveyard situated on Highgate to its original state of excellence after years of neglect and misuse. The Project was established in December 2003 as a ‘not-for-distributory-profit’ community organisation, and comprises of a small working party of volunteers. |

Why not get involved? There is a regular work programme throughout the year to regenerate this important social and historical site. New volunteers are welcome to come along and join in as and when they have the spare time. You can stay for just an hour or for the whole session. A variety of tasks are required to be undertaken, from weeding and planting, to heavier tasks such as mowing and digging, and a qualified landscape gardener and horticulturist is on hand to give advice. Tools are provided; all that is required is for volunteers to wear sturdy footwear. |
|
We encourage the local community to come along and take a look at what has been achieved so far and enjoy the flora and fauna whilst strolling around the centre piece of Heaton’s historical site. Guided walks and talks and school activities etc can be arranged. Information is also being collated from people who have family connections with the graveyard with a view to producing a local history book. Please forward any stories, photographs, etc; which you feel may be of interest. |

The project team meet fortnightly at the graveyard on Saturdays between 10am & 4pm. For further information please contact: Margaret Gray Tel: 01274 545 745 Email: Graymargaret1@aol.com |
